Dear Friends and Members of WARMTH,
As 2020 is approaching, this is my last letter as president of WARMTH and it is my privilege to summarize my presidency for the last two years. It was an honour for me to serve WARMTH as Congress President of the 10th ICRT-2015 held in Innsbruck, Austria, under President Richard Baum, Bad Berka, Germany, as President-Elect (2016 – 2017) under President Suresh Srivastava, Brookhaven, USA, as President (2018 – 2019), and I am looking forward to continuing serving WARMTH as Past-President under the Presidency of Partha Choudhury, New Delhi, India (2020 – 2021) and Mike Sathekge, Pretoria, South Africa (2022 – 2023).
With the assistance of our Chief Operating Officer, Josh Mailman, Oakland, USA, we have gone totally electronic and have continually taken steps to improve the administration of our WARMTH. His help and commitment have been immeasurable. A revised version of the Constitution of The WARMTH was presented to, and subsequently approved and adopted by the General Assembly of WARMTH, which was held on the 6th May 2015 during the 10th ICRT at Innsbruck, Austria. Following ongoing discussions on the Indian tax system, under the presidency of Suresh Srivastava, USA (2017 - 2018), the move of The WARMTH from India to the USA was finally adopted and approved by The WARMTH General Assembly during the ICRT-2017 held in Vienna, Austria. Following the agreement, all members of The WARMTH society registered in India became members of the WARMTH society registered in the State of Delaware, USA, The „WARMTH Inc.“ (Bylaws March 5, 2018).
- Scientific Projects
Especially, I would like to mention our research advances.
- Thyroid Diseases - Radioiodine Therapy for Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma (Sabina Dizdarevic, Sussex, UK)
The project under the lead of Sabina Dizdarevic has been completed and published this year. Our first statement can be found on the website of the World Journal of Nuclear Medicine. “The World Association of Radiopharmaceutical and Molecular Therapy position statement on the initial radioiodine therapy for differentiated thyroid carcinoma.” World J Nucl Med. 2019 Apr-Jun;18(2):123-126.
- PRRT - Margarida Rodrigues (Innsbruck, Austria)
Margarida Rodrigues leads the retrospective trial “Retrospective Study: Multicenter Analysis of 68Ga-Somatostatin Receptor and 18F-FDG-PET/CT (Dual-Tracer Imaging) in Neuroendocrine Tumor Patients Treated With Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy”. Currently, the CRFs are under completion and it is planned to publish an interim analysis soon. The cooperation with the office of Diana Paez, IAEA, was very important and we are very grateful to her and her office. As in the past, the IAEA support continues to be offered to The WARMTH.
- PRLT – Hojjat Ahmadzadehfar (Bonn, Germany)
The retrospective study under the lead of Hojjat Ahmadzadehfar (WARMTH Retrospective Multicentre Analysis of Castration Refractory Metastatic Prostate Cancer Patients Treated by Lu-PSMA-617) has already some intermediate results that are planned to be submitted for publication by the end of the year. The cooperation with the IAEA office of Diana Paez was again very important for this project.
Other studies in Prostate Cancer are still under discussion. Harvey Turner, Perth, Australia is promoting the “National Investigators Global Harmonization of Theranostics of Cancer of the Prostate (NiGHTCAP)” study. Salvage Radiotherapy with or without 177Lu-PSMA Radionuclide Treatment for Lymph Node Metastatic Prostate Cancer: A Randomized Phase 2 Trial is in planning by Finn von Eyben, Helsinki, Finland. The combination Treatment 223Ra / 177Lu-PSMA617 is promoted by myself and Sabina Dizdarevic, Sussex, UK.
- The World Journal of Nuclear Medicine
WARMTH welcomed the new Editor-in-Chief of the World Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Qaisar Siraj, Kuwait. Qaisar Siraj took over this important task from the former Editor-in-Chief, John Buscombe. Qaisar Siraj will collaborate with his editorial team and publishers for delivering a high-quality publication, and endeavor to enhance the journal visibility, impact factor and popularity.
